Mississippi AFL-CIO government agency files, 1960-1983.

The collection consists of records relating to Mississippi AFL-CIO President Claude E. Ramsay's interest in and involvement with local, state, and national government agencies from 1960-1983. The records chronicle his participation in advisory committees and commissions of these agencies including the Southeastern Regional Manpower Advisory Committee (1973), the Mississippi Advisory Committee for the Statewide Planning for Vocational Education (1967), and the State Advisory Committee for the Mississippi Employment Security Commission (1963). The collection also includes Ramsay's testimony before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights; his extensive dealings with the National Labor Relations Board and the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity; and his efforts in the early 1970's to pass legislation that would establish a state Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
